Management David "Tuffy" Owens career as a horse show manager began with a great opportunity at the 2013 UPHA Chapter 5 Horse Show. In the three years he has been involved with that show, it has earned the UPHA Chapter Honor Show of the Year title all three years. Adding the Bridlespur MHSA Kick-Off Show to his portfolio in 2014, Tuffy will twice return to his Wisconsin home in 2015 as the manager of The Madison Classic and the Wisconsin Futurity Horse Festival. New for 2016 will be two more stops in Missouri as the manager of the Missouri State Fair Society Horse Show and the Summer Daze Morgan Regional! Tuffy is an innovator as a show manager, using his knowledge of technology to bring horse shows into the new millennium. Posting stall charts online was a start, allowing trainers to plan out their stall layout before reaching the grounds. After that, Tuffy added another service to the horse trainers, sending out mass texts alerting them to work times, ring drags, and cancelled classes. As a show manager, Tuffy works well with a show committee. His philosophy is that the manager is the facilitator of the show committee's vision for the horse show. Tuffy creates a professional environment at a show, running it in a smooth, efficient, and fair style. The show manager oversees all aspects of the event, assisting anywhere and everywhere he is needed, from party planning to announcing academy sessions to throwing bags of shavings.
